Pokémon The 10 Ugliest Bug-Type Pokémon Ranked

A typical Pokémon looks like an adorable fantasy critter, but these ten bug-types are absolutely hideous when ranked against other Pokémon. is a franchise generally known for having an abundance of cool and adorable looking creatures that fans of all ages build bonds with. Bugs, on the other hand, are often reviled by people and are considered disgusting and chill-inducing by a large majority of the population. These two conflicting beliefs come together in the Pokémon franchise and give the world ugly bug-type Pokémon in all different colors, shapes, and sizes. Let's look at and rank the ugliest in existence and get into what makes them so hideous. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

Weedle

It's an odd place to be in when you're considered to be the least ugly . On one hand, you're not the ugliest and are pretty far from the top of the list, but on the other hand, you managed to make the cutoff and at the end of the day are considered ugly. If Weedle was a different color or if Caterpie didn't exist to make it hideous by comparison, then maybe it wouldn't have made the list at all. The coloring of its body makes it come off as less of a caterpillar and closer to that of a centipede or mealworm.

Blipbug

Blipbug is the newest face on this list as it first appeared in the Galar region with the release of in late 2019. It eventually evolves into a cool looking psychic-type ladybug, but unfortunately starts its life as a very geeky caterpillar of sorts. Truth be told it's not exactly difficult to look at or extremely hideous, but rather a product of poor design choices. Once you see what it becomes in both its second and final evolutionary stages, the base design for Blipbug makes less and less sense by comparison.

Durant

At the end of the day is the Iron Ant Pokémon, Durant, just a giant metal ant? Yes, that would be a correct assessment. The people at GameFreak managed to take the aesthetic of an ant which is already quite hideous and made it equally as terrifying. Durant is a 70 lbs. ant that's comprised of metal and has intense red eyes that sit directly about its giant iron mandibles. The metal armor makes its body less grotesque than what the film Honey, I Shrunk The Kids portrayed. That terrifying image was seared into the brains of almost every kid who grew up in the '90s.

Shuckle

Have you ever wondered just how ugly a turtle could be? Well, Shuckle is here to give you a first-hand look at that exact thing. It uses the shell as both a form of protection as well as a home where it stores tons of berries. It will suck itself inside of its shell and enjoy the literal fruits of its labor while hidden among a bunch of rocks. It's unclear why it's called the Mold Pokémon, but the strongest theory is that this ugly yellow worm-like turtle is based on an organism called endolith, which live inside rocks, coral, and animal shells.

Wurmple

When it comes to Pokémon that enter a cocoon and are reborn as something else, no one drew the short string quite like Wurmple did. It happens to be officially labeled as the Worm Pokémon despite looking the most like a caterpillar. When comparing to the likes of Caterpie and Weedle, it's not as endearing as Caterpie is, and its butt-like chin and wide eyes make it much more aesthetically off-putting than Weedle. The best part about Wurmple is that it can either turn into a gorgeous butterfly or a psychedelic moth.

Anorith

Pokémon as a franchise is home to a myriad of ancient creatures that are brought back to life by brilliant scientists. Anorith is one of those fossil creatures, and just like almost every other one, it isn't exactly the most adorable Pokémon around. This thing has eyes that protrude from its head and two large mandible looking extremities that jut out from its mouth. It's considered to be the Old Shrimp Pokémon which is quite odd considering that shrimp isn't the real-life counterpart you think of when imagining what inspired Anorith's design.

Karrablast

Karrablast, otherwise known as the Clamping Pokémon, is a tiny little creature that isn't necessarily overtly ugly. It looks like the type of critter you'd hate to find in your bathtub or sink, but it isn't going to terrify you like most other on this list. Karrablast's most effective and common way to defend itself is to spit an acidic liquid at its opponent. It's unclear how dangerous this is to humans as it has mostly been viewed attacking Shelmet in this type of manner. At the end of the day at least it evolves into a cool looking Pokémon in Escavalier.

Forretress

Forretress is a Pokémon that could have been a lot cooler than it ending up being which is always a real shame. It is the evolution of Pineco which doesn't make much sense at all. Upon reading that it is the Bagworm Pokémon you might assume that bagworms are parasites and it is simply a parasite filled pine cone now, but bagworms are a type of moth/butterfly. This means that there should be a third and final evolution to the Pineco line that has this hideous bulbous flesh-colored creature turning into a winged beauty of some sort.

Pinsir

Sometimes the best way to tell if something is ugly is if you have a hard time looking at it. In the case of Pinsir, it happens to be one of the Pokémon that gets more horrifying the longer you stare at it. On top of its leg and arm proportions being at odds with one another, its large gaping mouth has you starting to question how the anatomy and physiology of this supposed stag beetle inspired thing works. An odd detail about this creature is that if you're familiar with other Kanto region Pokémon you'll find that it has the same eyes as Voltorb.

Drapion

Here's the thing, for some reason when Skorupi evolves into Drapion, designers thought it made sense to ditch the bug-typing in favor of dark for some reason. So despite it not being a bug-type at this point, it is still going to top this list because it's not the world's fault that Drapion is a victim of . Now that it's established that Drapion should be a poison/bug-type let's talk about how ugly this scorpion-inspired abomination is. This purple monstrosity is composed of alternating purple and pink sections and looks less like a living creature and more like a child's clay creation.
