The 14 Most Powerful Ghost-Types In Pokemon Go Ranked

There are dozens of Pokémon to choose from in Pokémon Go, but some of the ghost-type Pokémon are truly powerful. , like many of the other Pokemon games, does not have a very robust selection of powerful ghost-type Pokemon. The higher tier in GO are fairly strong compared to other top tier Pokemon, but the middle-to-low tier ghost Pokemon are somewhat underwhelming. When composing this list three metrics were taken into account for the ranking. First is the Pokemon's CP or Combat Power; this is the combat potential of a pokemon reduced into a single numeric value. The second metric is the Pokemon's DPS (Damage Per Second) and TDO (Total Damage Output). The third metric is the Pokemon's stats, which are separated into attack, defense, and stamina. Updated by Juliet Childers on November 13th, 2020: For many fans, Pokemon is a constant battle between useful stats and aesthetics. Though a fan may prefer Haunter, Gengar may offer . And ghost Pokemon, in particular, present unique strategic opportunities. But which ones might promise victory? THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

Mega Gengar

This is a rare case when the lower evolution of a pokemon is preferred by fans. The raid to get Mega Gengar can be challenging due to high HP stats, defense, and attack. Two of the best counters for it are Mewtwo and another pokemon on this list (Origin Giratina). But even regular Gengar is a great counter for its Mega version. Both evolutions feature the powerful moves Lick and Shadow Ball and, on paper, Mega Gengar should outrank Gengar. But various tier lists rank this evolution lower than the regular Gengar.

Spiritomb

Spiritomb sits squarely in the "B" tier when it comes to ghost Pokemon in Pokemon GO. Though unequivocally terrifying in style, the pokemon's move set and stats don't stack up to some other ghost competitors like Banette. But Spiritomb does receive a boost with foggy weather with its best moves being Shadow Ball and Feint Attack. It is very weak to Fairy-types and is on par with another pokemon on this list: Dusknoir.

Cofagrigus

Another ghost Pokemon with a terrifying design, Cofagrigus evolves from Yamask with 50 candy. It uses the quick moves Zen Headbutt and Astonish with a variety of main moves including Frustration, Psychic, and Shadow Ball. Believe it or not, the best counter for Cofagrigus is, in fact, Gengar. This pokemon has high defense except against Dark and Ghost types. It ranks lower on this list as a result of its limited capabilities and moveset.

Dusknoir

Dusknoir is another ghost pokemon with high defense, but it sacrifices some stamina for a higher attack score. It takes 100 candies to evolve a Dusclops into a Dusknoir, but it is ultimately worth doing. Many fans place Dusknoir solidly in "B" tier along with Spiritomb. It has access to a variety of main moves like Dark Pulse, Psychic, and Return, and it can use Hex or Astonish for its quick move.

Drifblim

that was first introduced in generation four (Platinum, Diamond, and Pearl). This floating purple ball is the evolved form of Drifloon and actually has the highest stamina of any pokemon on this list. However, its other stats are fairly low, but its CP score of 2382 isn't terrible. Drifblim ranks lower on this list due to its DPS (12.21) and TDO (461.80). Drifblim's DPS is marginally higher than Jellicent's, but its TDO is significantly lower. Drifblim is also weak against five attack types: dark, electric, ghost, ice, and rock. That's just too many weaknesses for higher-level play.

Jellicent

This large blue jellyfish pokemon is a ghost/water type, and was originally introduced in generation five (Black and White). Jellicent has reasonably high stamina and defense – this allows it to last longer in battle. When this hardiness is paired with its best charge move of Shadow Ball (with a respectable TDO of 517.86) the Jellicent becomes a force to be reckoned with. Jellicent's CP (2338) is slightly higher than that of entry #8, but its DPS is quite a bit lower. This is why it was edged out of the #8 position on this list, which is held by…

Banette

Banette is only a ghost type pokemon, it does not have a secondary type. It was first introduced in generation three (Sapphire, Ruby, and Emerald), and is the evolved form of Shuppet. Banette's attack is relatively high, but its defense and stamina are both lacking. It's best available fast move is Shadow Claw, and it has a DPS of 14.13 when used by Banette. It is ranked at #8 because of its low TDO of 348.13 – which is the lowest TDO on this list. This pokemon has weaknesses to ghost and dark type attacks, but it has resistance to four types; fighting, normal, bug, and poison.

Mismagius

Like Banette, Mismagius is only a ghost type pokemon and does not have a secondary type. This gives it the same weaknesses and resistances as the Banette. Mismagius was introduced in generation four and is the evolved form of Misdreavus. This pokemon has average stats, with its attack (211) being its best and stamina (155) being its worst. The DPS of the fast move called Sucker Punch, when used by Mismagius, is a decent 14.14. Like most of the pokemon on this list, Mismagius' best charge move is Shadow Ball, and its TDO using Shadow Ball is 480.32.

Golurk

Golurk is a ghost/ground type pokemon that was introduced in generation five. have fairly good attack and stamina stats, and its defense isn't too bad either. Golurk also has the distinction of being the only pokemon on this list whose best fast move and charge move are both a type other than ghost. In fact, they are both ground type moves. Its best fast move is Mud-Slap with a DPS of 13.68, and its best charge move is Earth Power, which allows for a TDO of 503.23. Its TDO using the fighting type charge move Dynamic Punch is 476.44.

Gengar

Gengar is a ghost/poison type pokemon that was introduced way back in generation one (Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow). Gengar is the evolved form of Haunter, which is the evolved form of Gastly. Gengar's defense and stamina are both worse than that of Golurk, but its attack is the second-highest on this list. What Gengar does have is a very high DPS – in fact it has the best DPS on this list. When Lick it has a DPS of 17.91; its DPS with Shadow Claw is 17.01. When using the charge move Shadow Ball (with Lick) it has a TDO of 493.38.

Chandelure

Chandelure is a ghost/fire type pokemon that was . Chandelure is the evolved form of Lampent, which is the evolved form of Litwick. This pokemon has the highest attack stat (271) of any pokemon on this list, and its defense and stamina are both pretty good as well. Chandelure's best fast move is Fire Spin; using it allows for an excellent DPS of 17.29. With either Shadow Ball or Overheat as the charge move, Chandelure's TDO is 572.75. This pokemon is weak against five move types; ghost, dark, ground, rock, and water. Fortunately, it also has resistance to nine move types.

Giratina Altered Form

Giratina has two forms, Origin and Altered, and the Altered form is slightly weaker than the Origin form. This is a ghost/dragon-type pokemon that was introduced in generation four. Being a dragon type, it is not surprising to see Giratina this far up the list, and the Altered form has a CP of 3379. This pokemon's attack is above average, and its defense and stamina are both great. Using the fast move Shadow Claw gives a DPS of 11.78, but with the charge move Dragon Claw, it has an incredible TDO of 839.00.

Arceus Ghost

Arceus is a pokemon capable of being any type, and in general, it is one of the strongest of whatever type a trainer chooses to make it adopt. Arceus was introduced in generation four. In Pokemon GO, Arceus has very high stats, which are typically all close to the same amount. Shadow Claw is Arceus' best fast move, giving it a DPS of at least 13. It has three charge moves that all give it a devastating TDO. Future Sight (psychic type) gives a TDO of 873.78, Hyper Beam (normal type) gives a TDO of 849.65, and Outrage (dragon type) gives a TDO of 845.24.

Giratina Origin Form

is also the best ghost-type pokemon available in Pokemon GO. The Origin form has a CP of 3683, and its stats are all great – especially attack and stamina. The Origin Form's best fast move is Dragon Tail, which gives it a DPS of 15.97. Its best charge move is Shadow Ball, which gives it an outstanding TDO of 957.67. Giratina has resistances to most of the frequently used move types; fire, electric, grass, water, fighting, poison, bug, and normal. The Origin form of Giratina isn't just the best ghost-type pokemon in Pokemon GO, it is one of the best of any type.
