Background

Christine Gourin, M.D., helps patients with tumors of the skin, oral cavity, larynx, oropharynx, neck, skull base, and salivary glands. She also treats patients with thyroid cancer, premalignant conditions of the upper aerodigestive tract, and unknown primary head and neck primary squamous cell carcinoma, sinus, and nasal cavity tumors. Dr. Gourin received her medical degree from the State University of New York- Health Science Center at Brooklyn/ Downstate Medical Center. Dr. Gourin trained in General Surgery and Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Vermont, followed by a fellowship in Advanced Head and Neck Oncologic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh and a master's degree in Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Gourin is a Fellow of the American Board of Otolaryngology and the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Gourin has authored over 200 peer-reviewed journal articles, 24 book chapters and 2 books: Medical and Surgical Management of Thyroid and Parathyroid Diseases and The Johns Hopkins Patient Guide to Head and Neck Cancer, and is a section editor for the forthcoming 5th edition of the textbook, Head and Neck Surgery-Otolaryngology. She is on the Editorial Board of The Laryngoscope and Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and is a reviewer for numerous other head and neck surgery journals. She has an active head and neck surgical oncology practice and has been named to America's Top Physicians and Best Doctors in America annually since 2005. Dr. Gourin's research interests focus on head and neck cancer treatment outcomes, function, quality of life, palliative care, and improving the delivery of high-quality head and neck cancer care. She also serves as vice chair for safety, quality and service in the Johns Hopkins Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
