New TVR Griffith Sounds Epic Tearing Up The Track

TVR made a triumphant comeback to the auto industry with the debut of the new Griffith, but the automaker has kept quiet since the prototype was unveiled over a year ago (has it really been that long?). The British automaker is currently hard at work preparing the reborn sports car for production next year. It should be worth the wait, but the lack of footage showing it in action has been agonizing. Fortunately, tire supplier Avon recently took a prototype for a spin at the Castle Combe racing circuit in the UK and recorded the testing session for our viewing pleasure, giving us our first glimpse of the new Griffith being pushed to the limit on a track. At under a minute long, the clip is short but oh-so-sweet. TVR also promises more footage will be released soon to whet our appetite. It sounds sinister, too. The earth-shattering sound you're hearing is the Griffith's 5.0-liter, naturally aspirated V8 sourced from the Ford Mustang, which has been tuned by Cosworth to deliver 500 horsepower. This enables the Griffith to sprint from 0-62 mph in less than four seconds and top out at over 200 mph. The reborn Griffith looks agile around the corners too, thanks to the car's 50:50 weight distribution. Speaking of weight, the new TVR Griffith has a dry weight of 2,645 pounds thanks to Gordon Murray Design's revolutionary iStream Carbon construction technique, which speeds up the manufacturing process with pre-assembled parts to cut costs and build cars faster. Deliveries of the new TVR Griffith are slated to begin in 2019. As for whether it will be sold in the US, nothing has been confirmed yet, but company boss Les Edgar is keen to make it happen if the automaker can find a US partner. After the initial batch of 500 Launch Editions, convertible and hardcore performance variants could be in the cards. Let's hope this is the first of many new videos to come showing the glorious Griffith in action.
