Has The Corvette ZR1' s Nurburgring Lap Time Been Revealed

The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is the most powerful and most track-focused production Corvette ever made, so we weren't surprised when it was caught trying to set a new Nurburgring lap record. The car was last spotted lapping the 'Ring back in July, but Chevrolet hasn't publicly announced an official lap time. However, thanks to a post on Corvette Forum we may now know how fast the ZR1 zipped around the Green Hell. According to GM Authority, Corvette engineer Jim Mero recently retired after working at General Motors for 34 years. A photo of his retirement gift posted on the Corvette Forum shows Mero's achievements behind the wheel including seven Nurburgring lap times set by various Corvettes he has worked on. One of them is the C7 Corvette ZR1 with a time of 6 minutes and 57 seconds. EMS NordschleifeTV via YouTube This doesn't necessarily confirm the Corvette ZR1's official lap time, though. The time is denoted with an "S" at the end, which forum members speculate could refer to segment times rather than a complete lap. Interestingly, the photo shows the C7 Corvette Z06 with a Nurburgring lap time of 7 minutes and 10 seconds. Strangely, this was never publicly announced by Chevrolet either. EMS NordschleifeTV via YouTube If the Corvette ZR1's lap time is legitimate, this would place it as the seventh fastest production car to lap the Nurburgring, tied with the time set by the Porsche 918 Spyder. The current king of the Nurburgring is the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, which set an astonishing time of 6 minutes and 44.97 seconds. The time certainly sounds feasible since the ZR1 has a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine that produces 755 hp and 715 lb-ft of torque, as well as a sophisticated aero package.
