Steam gets user-defined tagging Adds new way to shop for games. News by Wesley Yin-Poole Deputy Editorial Director Updated on 22 May 2019 21 comments Valve has added user-defined tagging to Steam, which should make it easier to shop for games in the digital platform's bulging catalogue. The new feature, currently in beta, lets users tag any game with genres, themes, attributes or any other term or phrase. Swear words will of course be filtered out. The most popular tags on any given product will be surfaced on the Steam product page so users can find other games associated with that same tag. You can also browse by popular tags and browse by tags recommended for you. The addition of the tagging system follows last week's launch of the Recently Updated section. Valve said both were designed to "provide more ways to discover interesting content on Steam", which enjoys over 75 million users. Valve's Al Farnsworth added: "As the catalogue of products available on Steam continues to grow, we want to ensure that it is easy for customers to find the particular types of games or software they are looking for. "With this new feature, we are providing another powerful tool to help organise and browse products on Steam."
