YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Beauty 8 festival beauty tips to keep you looking great whatever the weather By Emily Cleary - June 6, 2022 With just two weeks to go until Glastonbury, Britain’s festival season is getting underway. But while we excitedly anticipate an Insta feed full of glitter, denim and colour, what we don’t want to see is shiny faces, claggy makeup and smudged grey eyes. Getty Perfecting a festival beauty regime is essential for keeping a fresh and vibrant look, so this is what you need to remember when packing for a few nights in a field… Sunscreen Red noses and blistered skin not only look awful, they’re signs of sun damage that can have permanent effects. Pack a moisturiser with built-in sunscreen. Supercharged with skincare goodies, today’s sunscreens do far more than simply fight UV rays. Take a look at our favourite products here. Oil-free is key Dancing, dehydration and lack of proper washing facilities can send your skin’s oil levels through the roof. Shiny hair is great, shiny skin is not. Don’t add to oiliness by using an oil-based facial product, instead invest in a matte product that lets your skin breathe. Prepare for rain If there’s one thing that says UK festival – it’s rain. While we’re hoping not to have an infamous washout, we need to be prepared. Waterproof mascara, eyeliner, powders and sunscreens are essential because if the rain doesn’t wash them off, sweat will! Beauty vlogger Manny Mua recommends Estée Lauder’s Double Wear as being ‘fantastic for longevity’, as is Mac’s Pro Longwear Foundation. Dry shampoo Getty Dry shampoo is a must if you’re not up for queuing for three hours for a freezing cold shower while your favourite band plays on the other side of a field. There are eco options and compact travel-size products that fit neatly in a festival bag. And this lifesaver isn’t just for hair – dry shampoo for clothes is also on sale, and it’s brilliant. Essential for keeping clothes smelling fresh despite being bundled up in damp or muggy environments. Facial sprays and body mists These can keep you feeling cool and smelling fragrant without leaving sticky residue on grubby skin. Mario Badescu’s Facial Spray is a hydrating, refreshing mist that is suitable for all skin types, and has received rave reviews from shoppers around the world Gather the glitter Getty Glitter makeup is a wearable trend that can be incorporated into all of our makeup routines to add a little bit of sparkle. With 3,200,000 TikTok views to date, the trend has seen a boom as people look to make a statement as festival season comes around. If you’re looking for a more subtle way to adapt to the trend, a glitter eyeshadow or liner will allow you to transform your look and add a pop of fun to your traditional looks. Eco Stardust create biodegradable glitter with a shade to match every festival outfit. Cleanse clever Forget facial wipes, they’re bad for the environment and bad for your skin, instead take a good quality cleanser with you to use sparingly and allow your skin to breathe at the end of every day. Try The Body Shop’s Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter, which removes foundation, lipstick, mascara and eyeliner with its gentle formula. At just £11 for a large pot, it’s a great price compared to many cleansing balms on the market, and has had hundreds of five-star reviews online. Look after yourself inside and out Festival food and drink can take its toll after a few days, and bloated bellies and tired skin will not leave you feeling great. Make sure you stay hydrated, and take a natural remedy such as Detox + Debloat to support your liver and banish uncomfortable tightness around the belly. Milk Thistle is a herb famous for its liver-loving properties and it’s also a major antioxidant. Turmeric is another superherb with benefits including antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
