YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Travel Whitworth Locke More than just a space to sleep in Manchester By You Magazine - September 25, 2021 Opening soon in Cambridge, Copenhagen and Aldgate, there are no signs that COVID has slowed the expansion of design-led Locke Hotel and its empire of one-of-a-kind, locally inspired design aparthotels. Lucky enough to pay a visit to Whitworth Locke, its outpost in Manchester, it is easy to see why the brand’s self-sufficient apartments have gone down a treat with travellers. Whitworth Locke Where & What In the heart of Manchester’s Civic Quarter is Whitworth Locke, a 19th-century cotton factory that has been renovated into one-of-a-kind apartments and quirky communal spaces for living such as the jaw-dropping glass Conservatory Bar, co-working lounge, Locker gym and adjoining Foundation Coffee House. Whitworth Locke With 160 apartments ranging in size from 25sqm to a whopping 80sqm, you can expect all the best bits of a boutique hotel with the space and facilities of an apartment. The Room With a premium placed on space, we’re used to hotel rooms in city centres being decidedly, well, underwhelming. At Whitworth Locke, however, the apartments are big enough and have all the facilities to make your own breakfast, cosy up with Netflix on the sofa or even take an on-demand fitness class. Whitworth Locke Naturally, each apartment is different and makes use of the factory’s original features and large, warehouse windows. Opting to stay in a one-bedroom suite, we were wowed on arrival by an expansive view of Manchester’s iconic canal and the aparthotel’s Instagram-iconic all-encompassing pink colour palette inspired by the city’s skyline. With a compact but sleek designer kitchen to hand too, it wouldn’t be inconceivable to stay a month or two! Whitworth Locke Food With the city of Manchester on your doorstep, you’ll have no trouble discovering a raft of independent places to eat and drink. One of the pros of Whitworth Locke, however, is that the aparthotel has partnered with one of Manchester’s most beloved institutions, Foundation Coffee House, to ensure that you don’t have to go very far to taste world-class coffee. Order a ‘Black Eye’ to have your socks knocked off. Also on offer is Peru Perdu, an authentic Peruvian-inspired restaurant making waves in its own right in Manchester. Colourful, vibrant and mouth-watering, the menu features Uruguayan Wet Aged steak and ceviche as well as seasonal plant-based dishes inspired by peri-urban agriculture in Lima. Truly delicious.
