This age wave will undoubtedly put pressure on many services, namely health care. Additionally, the Affordable Health Care Act will provide insurance coverage for 32 million more Americans. The implications of this new demand on Louisiana’s health care system are significant.
Are we ready?
AARP Louisiana is thinking ahead, anticipating the health care needs and wants of those 50+.
AARP Louisiana has partnered with the Louisiana Center for Nursing to build upon nurse-based approaches to improving quality and transforming the way Americans receive health care, and to implement solutions to the challenges facing the nursing profession.
AARP Louisiana and the Louisiana Center for Nursing have been selected as a Regional Action Coalition by the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action, a collaboration created by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the AARP Foundation.
“The diversity of our coalition and our proven capacity were key factors in being selected,” said Nancy McPherson, State Director AARP Louisiana. “The Louisiana Regional Action Coalition is excited to bring its energy and ideas to the table and maximize the contributions of the nurses who deliver health care in our state. We feel strongly that advanced practice nurses can deliver high-quality care and can increase patients’ access to care.”
The Regional Action Coalition’s immediate priority is to foster a collaboration of nursing and non-nursing organizations around Louisiana to strengthen nurse education and training, increase the participation of nurses as leaders, and advance the ability of all health care professionals to practice to the full extent of their education and training.
“Louisiana is one of 15 states to earn the designation as a Regional Action Coalition. We are honored to have our efforts recognized in this way and look forward to working with our partners to maximize the contributions of nurses in Louisiana,” said Cynthia Bienemy, Director of the Louisiana Center for Nursing. “We will work closely with the Campaign for Action to move the priority recommendations for Louisiana forward.”
