SUPER BOWL XXII

1988: Washington 42, Denver 10 Washington trailed Denver in Super Bowl XXII when Doug Williams, the first African American quarterback to start a Super Bowl, threw four TD passes in the second quarter, sparking a win.

SUPER BOWL XXIII

1989: San Francisco 20, Cincinnati 16 With a championship on the line, Joe Montana led a 92-yard drive in Super Bowl XXIII, then hit John Taylor with a touchdown pass with only 35 seconds on the clock to beat Cincinnati.

SUPER BOWL XXXIV

2000: St. Louis 23, Tennessee 16 The Tennessee Titans appeared headed for a win in Super Bowl XXXIV after a long drive, but St. Louis Rams linebacker Mike Jones tackled Kevin Dyson at the one-yard line to preserve the victory.

SUPER BOWL XXXVI

2002: New England 20, St. Louis 17 The clock read 0:07 when Adam Vinatieri lined up for a 48-yard field goal in Super Bowl XXXVI. But the pressure didn’t faze the New England Patriot, and his kick beat the St. Louis Rams.

2008: New York Giants 17, New England 14 When David Tyree pinned a pass against his helmet for a long completion in Super Bowl XLII, he kept the winning drive alive as the New York Giants upset the heavily favored New England Patriots.

SUPER BOWL XLIII

2009: Pittsburgh 27, Arizona 23 With 35 seconds remaining in Super Bowl XLIII, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Santonio Holmes made a tiptoe catch in the end zone, crushing the hopes of the Arizona Cardinals.

SUPER BOWL XLIV

2010: New Orleans 31, Indianapolis 17 The New Orleans Saints trailed the Indianapolis Colts at the half of Super Bowl XLIV when Saints coach Sean Payton called an onside kick, changing the momentum and igniting a Saints victory.

SUPER BOWL XLIX

2015: New England 28, Seattle 24 The Seattle Seahawks were one yard from back-to-back Super Bowl wins when New England Patriots rookie Malcolm Butler intercepted a potential game-winning pass at the goal line.
