Entertainers Reba McEntire, 63, and Cher, 72, composer Philip Glass, 81, and jazz musician Wayne Shorter, 84, will receive the 2018 Kennedy Center Honors, the illustrious awards for artists whose lifetime achievements have made a lasting mark on American culture. Also, for the first time in the 41-year history of the event, there will be a special honor for an individual work of art, the musical Hamilton, which plays through Sept. 16 at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Its creators, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Thomas Kail, Alex Lacamoire and Andy Blankenbuehler, ages 38 to 48, are the youngest honorees ever, though Stevie Wonder and LL Cool J were honored at 49. A Hamilton performance by the original cast was filmed for a forthcoming movie whose budget may exceed $50 million. The over-50 honorees are doing well, too. Grand Ole Opry and Country Music Hall of Fame member McEntire, who has sold more than 56 million albums, just signed a worldwide deal with Given Music Publishing and appears throughout 2018 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Oscar, Emmy and Grammy winner Cher stars in the summer's hit movie musical . Ten-time Grammy winner Shorter will release an eagerly anticipated triple album and autobiographical graphic novel, Emanon, on Aug. 24. Glass will attend the Kennedy Center gala midway through his current world concert tour. The Kennedy Center Honors will be awarded Dec. 2. The show will be broadcast Dec. 26 on CBS.
