AARP Colorado Sponsors Live Gubernatorial Debate
The Denver media called the debate “the most combative yet.” Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, a Democrat, Republican Dan Maes and Tom Tancredo, a former Republican congressman who switched party affiliation to the American Constitution Party to run, spent about an hour debating. Hickenlooper and Tancredo, who are ahead of Maes by a wide margin in the polls, differed on most issues.
In addition to the debate, AARP placed a commercial during the break, received a display page on the Fox 31 website and will also sponsor the ticker of election results that will run on Fox 31 and its sister station WB Channel 2 on election night.
“Through intense negotiations we were able to accomplish this sponsorship within our means,” said AARP Colorado Senior State Director Morie Smile. “This is great for our Colorado demographic.”

In front of a live audience of about 250, AARP Colorado sponsored the Fox 31 Gubernatorial debate last week, a heated exchange that covered health care, senior housing and spending on senior programs.The Denver media called the debate “the most combative yet.” Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, a Democrat, Republican Dan Maes and Tom Tancredo, a former Republican congressman who switched party affiliation to the American Constitution Party to run, spent about an hour debating.
