AARP Information Center at Mall of America The Country s Busiest AARP One-Stop Center
Located on the second level, halfway between Macy’s and Nordstroms, the AARP Info Center provides free information on a whole host of information, including:
Social Security
Retirement
Medicare
Staying healthy
Frauds and scams
Prescription drug costs
Since it opened more than 15 years ago, the Info Center has been staffed entirely by a dedicated volunteer team. Volunteers answer questions on health care or retirement, field phone calls from members and help Minnesotans find AARP Drivers Safety classes and AARP Tax Aide sites.
“We rely on volunteers to help our members navigate the benefits, programs, and services available through AARP,” said AARP’s Paro Pope, who helps manage the volunteer team at the Mall. “We offer many opportunities for training, and camaraderie with a great team of volunteers.
The Information Center also hosts information briefings on Social Security, how to avoid frauds and scams, and updates on the new health care law.
Mall of America(MOA) has been described as a city within a city. Along with an extensive range of retail, restaurants and entertainment, there are many unique features to Mall of America likely to be found in any community.
Many of the Mall of America AARP volunteers are “mall walkers.” Every day, they join hundreds of other mall walkers and use the Mall as a place to exercise and socialize with fellow walkers. Thousands of individuals have registered for the MOA Mall Stars walking club.
Volunteers who serve at the Information Center also coordinate community service activities. Currently, donated canned food items are being collected by AARP Information Center volunteers and delivered to an area food bank.
“Our Info Center represents what many AARP members are looking for,” said Pope. “They want to give back to the community, use their skills to help others connect to information, stay healthy and keep engaged as part of a dynamic team.”
