Creating a Livable Westchester: Tell Us About Your Community's Walkabi...

Livable Westchester Assessing< br> The County' s Walkability

Jay L. Clendenin/Aurora for AARP It's the oldest form of transportation. For people who do not drive, sidewalks are essential to getting around and just being with others. They allow people to take care of basic needs like shopping and going to the doctor.

Unfortunately, too many communities have built their transportation systems around the automobile and with little consideration for the needs and desires of pedestrians. Developments with few or no sidewalks, those with sidewalks built too close to streets and roads, and those that aren't well maintained can discourage people from walking and being part of the community.

If you have noticed these obstacles to comfortable walking in your community, please complete our survey. Tell us how we can work to make it easier for you to get where you want to go safely and comfortably.
