Project Description

This project will help to evaluate and replicate Help At Your Door’s home food delivery model. To achieve this aim, Help At Your Door will: Develop and implement an evaluation framework for the USDA SNAP purchasing pilot Analyze pilot results Refine the Help At Your Door program model for future replication AARP Foundation

Project Highlights

Volunteer Shoppers: In addition to improving food access for homebound older adults, Help At Your Door also engages volunteer adults age 50 and older. With an average age of 65, almost 40% of shoppers are 70 or older. By providing an opportunity for volunteerism and social interaction, Help At Your Door encourages social connectedness for volunteers and program participants simultaneously. AARP Foundation

Evidence Base

USDA Purchasing Pilot: Help At Your Door has been selected by the USDA as one of five organizations nationally to help pilot SNAP payment acceptance by non-profit and governmental organizations. These new provisions allow for purchase and delivery of SNAP eligible food for elderly and disabled individuals who would not be able to utilize SNAP benefits otherwise.
