Team Lakay coach Mark Sangiao shares thoughts on former bantamweight king Bibiano Fernandes

Mark Sangiao/Bibiano Fernandes/ONE Championship Former bantamweight king Bibiano Fernandes has realized immense success competing in ONE over the last decade. Team Lakay's knows the ins and outs of what makes Fernandes so electric in the circle. 'The Flash' is slated to take on No. 5 ranked bantamweight Stephen Loman at in November. Team Lakay's head coach told ONE Championship about what makes the former world champ so difficult to beat. “Bibiano Fernandes is the type of fighter that will do everything in his power to beat you. He loves to frustrate his opponents and make them forget their game plan.” In his last outing, the former champ's second bantamweight title reign came to an abrupt end at the hands of John Lineker. However, the 42-year-old maintained his determination to bring his belt back to Brazil. Fernandes has been fighting under ONE's banner since 2013, securing the interim bantamweight world title in his debut. He then went on to defend the belt seven times before running into at ONE: Heart of the Lion.

'The Flash' has fought Belingon three times by this point, besting him in the latter two matches. Notably, Belingon is teammates with Stephen Loman. Loman, the No. 5 ranked bantamweight, has just two appearances in the ONE circle. He and coach Sangiao aren't taking Fernandes lightly, despite his recent loss. Sangiao said: “Still this is MMA, we saw Bibiano lose in his last fight but still showed good heart and good skill. We’re expecting his striking.” The bantamweight belt that once belonged to Fernandes is now vacant, following the results of the ONE on Prime Video 3 headliner between John Lineker and Fabricio Andrade. Lineker effectively vacated the belt after missing weight in the fight's lead-up. An unintentional illegal groin from Andrade ended the bout in a no-contest ruling. Most expect Andrade to either rematch Lineker or take on the winner of this highly-anticipated matchup between Fernandes and Loman.
