PRESENTED BY HOUGHTON, Mich. -- Ninth-ranked Minnesota State-Mankato used a pair of third-period goals in rallying for a come-from-behind 2-1 victory against No. 1 and previously undefeated Michigan Tech in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association contest played in Houghton Friday. The two teams played through a scoreless first period before Tech's Alex Petan found the back of the Maverick net following a Stephon Williams stop of a shot from Tanner Kero at 1:05 of the second period. Then, forwards C.J. Franklin and Teddy Blueger did the dirty work on the forecheck before senior defenseman Brett Stern snapped the puck past Huskie netminder Jamie Phillips at 11:58 of the third to tie the game. The goal is the second of the year for Stern. Less than 30 seconds later, at 12:22, junior forward Dylan Margonari batted the puck into the net with what proved to be the game-winning marker. The goal is third of the season and the fifth game-winning tally of his three-year collegiate career. The Mavericks went 0-for-2 in power play chances on the night, while MTU was 0-for-3 with the man advantage. The Mavericks owned a 34-31 advantage in shots on goal the game as junior netminder Stephon Williams, who finished with 30 saves, improved his record to 8-1-0 in 2014-15.
