Boston College remembers 9/11 hero in annual "Red Bandana Game" NCAA.com

PRESENTED BY In the second annual Red Bandana game, Boston College honored former Eagles lacrosse player Welles Crowther, who is remembered for his heroics during the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Crowther, a 1999 BC alumnus, lost his life on 9/11 but not before leading at least a dozen people to safety in the South Tower of the World Trade Center. He became known as "The Man in the Red Bandana" and ESPN released a back in 2011. Fans, players and coaches all wore red bandanas Friday night as a symbol for Crowther, who always wore his signature handkerchief under his lacrosse helmet. Crowther's parents were present Friday night to hand out red bandanas to fans and students as they entered Alumni Stadium. The locker room is set for ! — BC Football (@BCFootballNews) For this year's game, Boston College also presented former firefighter Jake LaFerriere with the first ever Red Bandanna Hero Award. LaFerriere suffered third and fourth degree burns back in 2010 while responding a house fire in Minneapolis. The firefighter started a charity "Firefighters for Healing" to help support young burn victims and their families.
