PRESENTED BY Welcome back, sports fans, to Throwback Thursday, a time to look upon our past with equal parts nostalgia, pride and a healthy dose of shame. For as casual style goes through awkward changes and redesigns so do football uniforms and logos. This week we take a look at the 1961 Maryland Terrapins. Here's what Maryland wore in 1961, for anyone who wants a preview of the throwbacks. — Jake Russell (@_JakeRussell) Earlier this week, Maryland unveiled some for their tilt with Penn State this weekend. But, the 1961 edition of the Terrapins were a more hopeful, and successful, bunch. That year, Maryland became the first college football team to put names on the back of jerseys and head coach Tom Nugent led Maryland to a 7-3 record and an incredible 22-21 upset of No. 7 Syracuse. Introducing the throwbacks we'll wear against Penn State this weekend: — Maryland Football (@MarylandPride) Oh, and Maryland defeated Penn State that season, 21-17. We'll just have to see if those threads can create a repeat.
