Google Claims Stadia Will Feel More Responsive Than Local Gaming

Google's Madj Bakar discusses the various capabilities of Stadia and how it will change over time to become better Google is gearing up to launch its streaming service, , in the near future and is going hard on press tours to promote it. In a , Google's Madj Bakar (VP of engineering) discussed the various capabilities of Stadia and how it will change over time to become better. According to Bakar, Stadia is set to "feel more responsive" than gaming on a local device in due time. Since Google is priming Stadia to capture a pocket of the gaming market, it only makes sense that it would talk up the potential of this new hardware. As Bakar states, "Ultimately, we think in a year or two we'll have games that are running faster and feel more responsive in the cloud than they do locally. Regardless of how powerful the local machine is." THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY Google hopes to achieve this result by utilizing its own in-house streaming technology. Touting something called "negative latency," Google believes that its software and technology will help cut down on any potential lag that users may experience. Whether or not that's a bunch of hot air remains to be seen, but I suppose internet technology will only continue to improve as time marches forward. I won't deny the potential for a cloud-based experience to feel close to playing locally, but the current internet infrastructure in the United States makes me wary of this claim. Despite having a 200 Mbps connection, I still regularly get lag in games across all platforms. I really doubt that any special tech Google may have will be able to mitigate latency issues for all users. Maybe there's something I'm missing, but this sounds like marketing talk. Google clearly wants people signing up for its service and is stretching the truth a bit to do so. I don't think Stadia is a boogeyman in the gaming industry, but it's also not going to replace traditional methods for the majority of people. I see Stadia becoming a good way to test games before dropping money on them, which could validate it for many people. Whatever the case, Stadia is coming. It seems Google is actually taking this one seriously, unlike the various other apps it has closed down. Source:
