The series as a whole is another in a long line of horror titles released on the Switch, with other notable titles being Outlast, the series, and most recently, the Amnesia collection. Five Nights at Freddy’s became a surprise hit within the horror genre of games upon its formal release in 2014. The gameplay consists of playing a character who is a night-time employee in a place that has some manner of connection with Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, which is meant to be loosely themed after restaurants like Chuck E. Cheese’s. In some games the player takes on the role of a security guard, but other games feature different positions. Inside these places are life-size animatronic characters with murderous minds of their own. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY The gameplay is simple compared to other games in the survival horror genre. The animatronics wander the building at night and kill the player if they can reach him. As such, your goal is to defend against the animatronics with tools meant to keep them away from you. In all games, one must complete and monitor their resources to survive the night. As the name of the game implies, players need to survive for a total of five nights, each becoming more difficult than the last. Unlike most horror games on the Switch, players are quite passive in the Five Nights at Freddy’s series, using monitors and tools to see what is coming and trying to breach the office. Although the first three games are being ported onto the , there are more that could also be released in the future. The game has additional games in the series-as well as spin-offs, books, and but is still in development. As all the games in the series have been relatively well received, there is a real opportunity to see more of these games on the Switch. Fans looking for a fresh take on the horror genre would do well to check out Five Nights at Freddy’s.
