The 5 Best New Nintendo Characters Of The Last Decade & 5 Old Ones That Got Stale

Nintendo has provided us with some of the most iconic video game characters in history. Some have gotten stale but others are great new additions. Nintendo is known for many things in the gaming sphere but nothing as much as having memorable mascots and characters. , many new characters have been added to the Nintendo stable across their games but some of the old ones have gotten quite stale. Even with Nintendo having a five-year dark period this decade (Wii U) the company still put out plenty of . There are a plethora of new characters so it gets pretty boring seeming some of the old ones over and over again. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

Stale Charizard Pokémon

At this point, everyone understands that dragons are cool and that Charizard looks like a dragon. For some reason, though all of the Pokémon games in recent years have felt the need to lean on Gen 1 Pokémon pretty heavily and with Charizard being one of the most popular of the bunch, he is around far too much. Between being given two Mega Evolutions in Pokémon X and Y and being the main partner for the champion in Pokémon Sword and Shield, Charizard is getting far too much screen time in a series that already has a problem with not innovating enough.

Best Captain Toad Captain Toad Treasure Tracker

Before the release of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, most people would be tempted to tell you that Toad is one of the worst characters in Nintendo's roster. However, this treasure hunter changed that for the better. Not only is Captain Toad one of the most charming and adorable versions of the character, but his upbeat spirit and headlamp also make him just a ton of fun. Between his own game and his appearances in Super Mario Odyessy, any moment shared with Captain Toad is a magical one.

Stale Shulk Xenoblade Chronicles

First and foremost, wearing a jacket with shorts is not a great choice and wearing boots with shorts should be reserved for hikers. Shulk is the poster boy for annoying anime boys in JRPG games between his terrible default outfit and bad hair. While his tragic background gives him some sympathy, his inability to understand other character's feelings makes him an unlikeable protagonist. On top of that, his Super Smash Bros. move set is incredibly annoying to play against, losing him even more points.

Best Isabelle Animal Crossing New Leaf

Isabelle is very much the stereotypical clumsy but lovable assistant but that doesn't take away from the fact that she is an incredibly well-done version of that. Isabelle is the heart and soul of Animal Crossing: New Leaf as she helps you navigate your new role as the mayor. Despite seeming nervous most of the time, she is wildly dedicated to her work and the townspeople. Having an upbeat person in the workplace typically raises everyone's mood, helping you forget about your obscene debt to Tom Nook, if only for a moment.

Stale Waluigi Mario Tennis

For a character that only exists so Wario had somebody to play doubles tennis with, Waluigi is far too prominent and too popular. His crazy mustache and phallic nose make him a cartoon villain. He's so incredibly over the top, it's annoying. Ever since he has simply existed in the Mario universe, he's never done much of anything other than hanging around. He needs to get phased out in favor of more interesting characters or at the very least, never gets added to the Super Smash Bros. roster.

Best Nabbit New Super Mario Bros U

After making his first appearance stealing items from Toad Houses in New Super Mario Bros. U, Nabbit has been stealing hearts throughout the Mario game universe. This purple rabbit rocking a face mask very similar to Bowser Jr.'s from Super Mario Sunshine quickly started to appear in tons of Nintendo games, from being a trophy in Super Smash Bros. 4 and Ultimate to joining the Olympic games in Rio. Nabbit is a lovable villain and is up there with the likes of Goomba and Shy Guy, despite not working for Bowser.

Stale King Boo Luigi s Mansion

King Boo's usage is getting completely out of hand. There have been three Luigi's Mansion games and King Boo has been the main antagonist and final boss for all three games. His hatred of Luigi and company is understandable but surely other prominent ghosts want a go at Luigi. Losing three times is more than enough to warrant packing it up and going home because, at this point, it's mostly embarrassing.

Best Prince Sidon Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild

Prince Sidon is a fantastic character since they didn't make him the stereotypical "unfit to be king" type prince. In fact, Prince Sidon is nothing but a positive for the Zora, never letting his spirits drop and always encouraging his people. He also is one of the few Zora to not have a prejudice against the Hylians despite the majority of his people blaming them for the calamity. Every interaction he has with Link shows his kind-hearted nature and tendency to be a great person regardless of the challenges and obstacles put in front of him. Everyone should strive to be a little more like Prince Sidon.

Stale Tom Nook Animal Crossing

The political landscape has changed a ton since the original Animal Crossing, so Tom Nook's obsession with monetizing your entire existence is no longer cute. Even with the games traveling in a direction that seems focused on escapism from the hassle of everyday life, Nook is still there, trying to drown you in debt and force you collect and sell the world around you. Even as we head into our island vacation, Nook will be there, making sure the realities of capitalism are always in the back of your head.

Best Edelgard Fire Emblem Three Houses

It feels strange to put a fascist leader as of Fire Emblem: Three Houses but Edelgard is easily the answer. Not only is she an absolute powerhouse of an ax user, but she also has strange melancholy humor that is very endearing. She is incredibly driven and feels confident about her goals for the realm. Regardless of her methods, Edelgard does everything for the greater good, something most people can respect, even without condoning her actions.
