Binding Of Isaac Creator s New Game Is A Trashy Puzzle RPG

Ed McMillen and James Id have teamed up for The Legend Of Bum-Bo, a match-three puzzle RPG and prequel to Binding Of Isaac. Indie games have gained great traction in the last decade, from artistic games like Limbo to throwbacks like Shovel Knight. One of the bigger names in the indie market is Edmund McMillen, designer of the popular Super Meat Boy and The Binding of Isaac. His latest game is called The Legend of Bum-bo, a turn-based puzzle RPG. Co-developer James ID debuted the first trailer for the game on Twitter. The story follows a creature named Bumb-Bo who is content with trash and a coin. A mysterious voice comments on the nice coin. After telling the voice to go away, the "bad guy" as the trailer calls it swoops in and steals Bum-bo's coin. The bad guy retreats into a hole. Armed with his trash, Bum-bo jumps in after it, and that's where we see the gameplay. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY Whereas Super Meat Boy was a more traditional 2D platformer (albeit an insanely hard one), and The Binding of Issac was inspired by the original Legend of Zelda, The Legend of Bum-bo is clearly in a genre of its own. The gameplay consists of throwing objects at enemies. The trailer showcases RPG elements, including turns, deciding what objects to throw, and what moves to make. Via legendofbum-bo.com Edmund McMillen seems to enjoy using some off-color humor (in The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, the main character has to battle living poop), and you can definitely see that in The Legend of Bum-bo. Bum-bo has a similar graphic style to The Binding of Isaac, including simplistic characters and dark backgrounds. But also like Isaac, there's a comedic undertone to it all. The style is not for everyone, but both Super Meat Boy and The Binding of Isaac have been generally well received. The highest Metacritic score for Super Meat Boy is a 90 (the Xbox 360 version) and the The Binding of Isaac for PC has an 84. It should be interesting to see where McMillen and James Id's The Legend of Bum-bo ranks. The Legend of Bum-bo will release sometime in 2018 for Steam and IOS via The Label. According to the official , McMillen is hoping for a Nintendo Switch release next year.
