Nightdive Studios Delays Its Enhanced Edition Of Blade Runner Nintendo Life

Release date now "TBD" by Share: Image: Nightdive Studios has confirmed will no longer be released this year on the Nintendo Switch and other platforms. In an interview with our friends over at Eurogamer, Nightdive's CEO Stephen Kick said the launch date was now "TBD". "There have been some obstacles we've had to overcome in terms of the old technology the game uses. And our hunt for the original source code and assets have come up empty." Long story short, the source code for Westwood's classic was lost when the studio was purchased and relocated by Electronic Arts in 1998, and although a lot of its past work was uncovered by EA during the development of the Command & Conquer remaster not so long ago, it's not believed to contain any Blade Runner content. Nightdive is also struggling to get a clear response from EA, and even if there is anything related to Blade Runner in there, it's unlikely to be released due to "legal reasons". The studio has been left with no option but to reverse engineer the code, and there's been a number of other hiccups along the way as well, which have been described as a "real challenge". "It's just taking a bit longer than we originally anticipated." Nightdive Studios is the same team that's restored a number of classics such as System Shock: Enhanced Edition, , and Forsaken Remastered with its proprietary game engine, KEX. Comments ) It sounds like a massive undertaking and anyone would be utterly unreasonable to hold them to a release date. Hope it's not the end of the line with it and we see it someday One of my favorite adventure games next to Grim Fandango and Monkey. Got me so hooked on the world that I read the PKD novel because of it. It’s not really their fault the source code went AWOL, this will be a massive undertaking trying to reverse-engineer it. Really hope it turns out well. Hope it’s not delayed indefinitely. Really wanted to play this and explore its rich story and stunning world. I hope Nightdive bring System Shock and Forsaken to Switch, I'd love to play them. Just read that Strife :Veteran Edition is coming next week though. I'd never heard of it before but it looks pretty good. Anyone played the original? Btw, I hope they’ll bring System Shock to Switch. I know it’s a real classic and that it has a setting right up my alley, but I still haven’t gotten around to playing it. I think it's perfectly fair to wait on a remaster that, let's be honest, no one ever thought would see the light of day because of the very same roadblocks the team is hitting now. I'm rooting for them. I must admit I don't really know what System Shock is about. I know it's a classic and I think it's in first person view. But is it a shooter or a Fallout type RPG or something (probably not of the same scope as Fallout ik). But what I do know is that I enjoyed my 30 hours of Turok on Switch (the first one, never really liked the second) and that I'm really looking forward to replaying Shadow Man next year. It’s funny, I’m certain I remember back in the day reading an interview with the developers and they were boasting their voxels would ensure the game could scale up to any resolution over the years and it would just look better and better. I’m guessing their ambition exceeded what they could eventually achieve. Oh crumbs. I hope we actually SEE the game now. Don't worry about the release date I was hoping Turok 3 could have been their next one Are they still doing shadow man? I've never heard of any of those titles, but anything good and revamped will be new to me. It's a first person action RPG. I haven't played it either but just searched for similar games and got Bioshock, Dues Ex, Dishonored, Ultima.... Have you played Doom 64 or Duke Nukem 3D on Switch? The developers done an amazing job bringing those up to date without taking anything away from the look of the originals.Doom 64 really impressed me. It shows 64 games can still look and feel fresh with a little work. Sounds pretty good then? I really enjoyed Deus Ex Human Revolution, and Dishonored was pretty good too. Forsaken Remastered?! Bring that to Switch too please! We will remain patient for Blade Runner! This is a huge piece of gaming history and needs to be preserved. I would love to own a copy just for the sake of the story behind it. Loved this on PC the first time around.
Sounds like a bit of an undertaking having to reverse engineer it all, but I hope they manage it. I want NightDive to remake BattleTanx Global Assault. Game is a classic. Will support this effort when it goes to market. If they ever want to restore Pirates: The Legend of Black Kat... Again we have proof that anything touched by EA turns into chaos/*****. It's a light RPG/immersive sim set on a space ship. It's closest modern equivalents are probably the Bioshock and Deus Ex games. Yeah, I kind of thought so. And I prefer this approach over Fallout or Elder Scrolls. They're also good, but a bit too "heavy" RPG-wise for my taste. Thanks for the info. Sounds like just my kind of game. I can't get enough of the original Doom games on Switch and recently played through Duke Nukem 3D and loved every minute of it. I've been hoping for Hexen to come to Switch, I've never played it before and it looks superb. Strife I had never heard of until the other day, so that's a nice surprise. The classic 90's FPS' are as fun today as they were back then. I'll watch that review later, cheers. Yeah I'm the exact same. I have no interest at in proper RPGs, but my favourite genre is a FPS with a bit of exploration, looting and ability crafting. Its one of the few genres the switch is lacking in. I loved the Bioshocks,
Dishonored, Deus Ex, Prey, etc. Now that the original game is fully supported by SCUMMVM there is certainly hope that this team can sort out how to make the remaster work. Personally I'd love to see a way for games that work on SCUMMVM to easily be ported. Soo many games that need to be on Switch there lol.
