Yellow quest markers hadn't built my relationships in Cyberpunk 2077. When a job needed doing, then they'd steer me in the right direction. But for those initial sparks of story, my cellphone had been key. Chats and texts buzzed into my brain at all hours. "Hey V", "V, got a minute?", "V!" Characters would get in contact with me, not the other way around. And I liked that. In fact, I'd say it helped build a living, breathing world more than Night City's towering skyscrapers and moving billboards. More than, perhaps, any other big RPG I've played over the last couple of years.
Read the rest of this article with an RPS Premium subscription
To view this article you'll need to have a Premium subscription. The next, I don't want it to end. It's a charming RPG that has me lurch between anger and glee at an alarming rate. Right now, I'm not sure how I feel about it. I think I'm nearing its end, which I'm relieved about! But also quite sad? My weird relationship with this game has taught me the value of an ending, though. It doesn't know how to end things, but it's also remarkably good at it when it does.
Read the rest of this article with an RPS Premium subscription
To view this article you'll need to have a Premium subscription. Please do not read any more of this article if you're sensitive to Elden Ring SPOILERS. What are you doing?! Get OUT! Out I said. Oh – you're still here? He's a beastman, of sorts, who awaits you at the end of a castle. But more than that, he's an optional challenge that both leaves a lasting impression and doesn't at the same time.
Read the rest of this article with an RPS Premium subscription
To view this article you'll need to have a Premium subscription. I did not elaborate on how I wish there was a version that couldn't be undermined by boring, annoying Other People. Blood West isn't the same as Hunt, but they're definitely related. It also wears its love of Blood on its sleeve. It also also carries Thief DNA, and even takes some notes from Dark Souls, a game I dislike because it's bad and everyone is just wrong. Most remarkably though, Blood West feels almost entirely itself, rather than just an assembly of other things. It's really damn good.
Read the rest of this article with an RPS Premium subscription
To view this article you'll need to have a Premium subscription. Throwing in that it's from the same developers who made Mulaka meant I had to give it a go. I'm glad I did. Aztech No Colon Forgotten Gods starts with its weaker foot, showing rough edges right away, but that's overshadowed by its entertaining movement system. During its opening, a quest prompt tells you to go home to sleep, as though they didn't just give you a magical power arm that's also a goddamn rocket. My home was a short walk away. I didn't get there for 40 minutes.
Read the rest of this article with an RPS Premium subscription
To view this article you'll need to have a Premium subscription. For example, there's probably a generally accepted term for RPGs about traipsing around dungeons killing rats, while turning and moving strictly at 90 degree angles. But I actually typed out "Dungeons of Gridlock" because I genuinely thought that's what Legend Of Grimrock was called. For once, I am not trying to annoy fans of a thing I generally hate. That's because I've been playing Potato Flowers In Full Bloom, which is very much one of those games. And it's the first I've ever enjoyed.
Read the rest of this article with an RPS Premium subscription
To view this article you'll need to have a Premium subscription. It's only a matter of time before I end up recommending one here, since they're often pretty good, but Approaching Infinity has got there first because it's not only good, it's doing things completely differently. It's a free-roaming space game about exploring, trading, fighting, and doing questy things. But instead of copying Elite wholesale, it merely borrows some parts, and combines them with a classic roguelike framework, and lovingly paints the result with a huge dose of Star Trek. If your eyebrows just did a thing, I'd be very surprised if you don't enjoy it.
Read the rest of this article with an RPS Premium subscription
To view this article you'll need to have a Premium subscription. I'm not a fan of most fighting games. All too often they have too many elaborate moves, too much memory testing, or they feel like glorified puzzles you have to figure out the one solution to. Hats Are Not Allowed takes an approach I find far more interesting. Combat is pared down to a few basic principles, and the challenge comes from learning how to combine them, and timing is less about animations than about second guessing your opponent. I can't say it's one of the best dueling games ever, but it's the best one I've played for ages.
Read the rest of this article with an RPS Premium subscription
To view this article you'll need to have a Premium subscription. We've gone from aggressively dunking on Fortnite to actively enjoying Fortnite. Why? Desperation. And its No Build mode. We sought a lighthearted battle royale having tried loads of others, and were suckered in by the prospect of a Fortnite that didn't feature people erecting defensive fortresses in milliseconds. Incredibly, the game has delivered. I'm having fun - albeit with a tinge of unease. Not only does the game act like a blaring reminder that I've lost touch with the Top 40, it's also a bizarre metaverse where nothing is sacred.
Read the rest of this article with an RPS Premium subscription
To view this article you'll need to have a Premium subscription. It does, however, still apply to Zapling Bygone. Describing it in less mechanical terms could make it sound creepy. You're a spore of an all-consuming hivemind, dropped on an unfamiliar planet to assimilate it. You move by skittering about on wobbly green tentacles, leaping and climbing and clinging and lashing out at living things with them, then absorbing the green muck that bursts out, and periodically consuming a creature powerful enough to be worth assimilating. And wearing its skull in the centre of your tentacle mass, because why not.
Read the rest of this article with an RPS Premium subscription
To view this article you'll need to have a Premium subscription. I'm genuinely not thinking of any specific game, but many 'retro' inspired games fall into this way of thinking, and many more fans cut a good one down because of it. Itorah, however, feels pure in the sense of capturing the essence, the heart of a good retro platformer, not just going through the motions to technically qualify for an arbitrary category. Aeons ago, it would have ported comfortably to your GameBoys and gramophones, and probably look just as pretty and feel just as good in motion, judging by the talented art direction on show here.
Read the rest of this article with an RPS Premium subscription
To view this article you'll need to have a Premium subscription. I partly share the same opinion as Alice Bee, who thought the game could've shown us anything and they chose grey rocks again. What I wasn't expecting was to feel a bit emotional about the game's reveal, though. I mean, I felt this weird swell in my chest of excitement or something. Maybe it was the crushing jet lag, or maybe it was a heady mixture of nostalgia. Let's investigate.
Read the rest of this article with an RPS Premium subscription
To view this article you'll need to have a Premium subscription. He was found dead at his student house on Lansdowne Place after suffering a fatal heroin overdose. He was discovered by paramedics and pronounced dead at 5:30pm on 11th February. He was identified by one of his flatmates. Police found a drugs diary that documented all of Ben’s drug use. As well as documenting his drug use, the diary also contained information about Ben buying his drugs from the dark web. Police also found packages containing cocaine at 60 per cent purity and over-the-counter medication. Ben’s laptop and mobile phone were also seized however they were inaccessible without the passwords. The assistant coroner said: “Ben was at university, had a girlfriend, and was doing all the things a 22-year-old should be doing”. Jayne Aldridge, Director for the Student Experience at the University of Sussex commented: “I would like to express my deepest condolences to Ben’s family and friends, on behalf of everyone at the university”. According to The Argus, Ben’s flatmates were aware of his drug use but not the extent as it was “effectively taking place behind closed doors”. His father also told the inquest, “This was not the Ben I knew”. The coroner described Ben as a “compassionate and a deep thinker”. YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Food
Rick Stein&#8217 s crab omelette
By You Magazine - September 5, 2021 I am always keen on recipes that don’t overpower the flavour of crab meat and this is absolutely one of them. James Murphy SERVES 2 15g unsalted butter
1 shallot, finely chopped
6 eggs
1 tbsp clotted cream
50g Parmesan cheese (or vintage Cornish Gouda if you have it), finely grated
100g white crab meat
50g brown crab meat
2 tbsp chopped herbs (mix of parsley, chives, chervil and tarragon)
Salt and black pepper Heat the butter in a 20-23cm nonstick omelette pan or frying pan. Add the shallot and fry for a couple of minutes until softened. Lightly beat the eggs with the clotted cream in a bowl, then stir in the cheese, crab meat and herbs and season with salt and pepper. Pour the egg and crab mixture into the pan. Turn the heat down to low and, using a spatula, occasionally draw in the sides of the omelette as they start to set. While the egg is still wobbly and soft, flip one side of the omelette over the other to form a semicircle. Slide it on to a plate, cut it in half and serve with a side salad and bread.
Now buy the book

Our recipes are from Rick Stein at Home by Rick Stein, to be published by BBC Books on 16 September, price £26.
