Techart is arguably one of the most prolific Porsche tuners in Europe. Recently, the German tuner unveiled the 800-hp GTstreet R based on the 911 Turbo and Turbo S and has worked on upgrades for the Taycan, Porsche's first electric sports car. If you want to tune your car and take its performance to the next level, it's important to do it safely because some cars supplied by aftermarket tuners are illegal and not safe to drive. How do you raise awareness of safe car tuning? By getting tuners to create custom police cars. Only in Germany. Since 2005, Germany's 'Tune it! Safe!' campaign run by the Federal Ministry of Transport and supported by the German Association of Automobile Tuners has been encouraging car owners to use quality tuning components and support reputable aftermarket tuners.
Techart Techart Techart Collaborating with aftermarket tuners, the campaign has spawned several police-themed tuner cars over the years. The latest is this Porsche 911 Targa 4 police car modified by Techart to show that tuning doesn't have to go against legal requirements. Wrapped in a German blue and yellow police livery, Techart's Porsche 911 Targa is customized with an aero-enhancing body kit optimized in a wind tunnel that includes a front spoiler, side skirts, a rear diffuser, and a rear spoiler. Three-dimensional Techart lettering adorns the rear, while emergency flashing lights on the roof and a carbon hood lid with integrated emergency lights help create an imposing Porsche police car. Techart Techart Techart Techart Rounding off the modifications are Formula V multi-spoke wheels and sport springs that lower the ride height by 1.57 inches to sharpen up the handling. Techart hasn't provided any performance specifications, so the powertrain presumably hasn't been tweaked. As standard, the Porsche 911 Targa 4 is powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged boxer six-cylinder engine that produces 443 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque in the range-topping Targa 4S, which is sent to all four wheels through either an eight-speed PDK dual-clutch or seven-speed manual transmission. Techart's Porsche 911 Targa 4 won't be used for police duties, but it will be showcased at the Essen Motor Show between November 26 and December 5. The G80-generation BMW M3 has been a hit since it was launched. Yes, not everyone has warmed to its divisive styling, but the sedan is brilliantly engineered. From its well-sorted chassis to the 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six producing up to 503 horsepower in Competition guise, there's a lot to like. Of course, that hasn't stopped tuners like AC Schnitzer from having their way with the M3 and giving it even more power. The same goes for the M4 Coupe which has also been on the receiving end of some spectacular upgrades over the last year or so. Now, German tuner Lightweight Performance has revealed its own radical take on the iconic M3 sedan. Lightweight Performance/Facebook Lightweight Performance/Facebook Lightweight Performance/Facebook Outside, this tuned M3 wears matte gold wheels measuring 20 inches in front and 21 inches at the back. Those gold wheels contrast nicely with the green paint and are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. An enormous rear wing and add-ons like a lightweight front lip, a revised power dome, and two openings in the hood add even more presence to a car that already doesn't lack any in the first place. Those openings no doubt aid cooling of the mighty turbocharged engine lurking beneath. Under the skin, there are more upgrades that make this an even better track toy than the stock M3. Lightweight's M3 gets upgraded carbon ceramic brakes, and both Eibach and Bilstein contributed to the chassis upgrades. Lightweight Performance/Facebook Lightweight Performance/Facebook Speaking of the chassis, it's multi-adjustable to suit the needs of each driver, or the environment the car is used in. Lightweight offers a stainless steel exhaust system with valve control, a part that costs €3,999 on its own, the equivalent of around $4,485. Inside, the tuner has installed carbon fiber shell seats. Despite all the extras, Lightweight Performance hasn't made any mention of engine upgrades, not that the M3 Competition - with 503 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque - needs it. With all-wheel drive, the normal M3 Competition needs just 3.4 seconds to hit 60 mph. With its M4 GTS-like aero kit, the tuner's M3 is an even more capable sports sedan. It will be displayed at the upcoming Essen Motor Show that begins on November 27. The Volvo XC90 is renowned for being safe rather than sporty, but Heico Sportiv wants to change that. The German Volvo tuner has unveiled a new range of accessories that spice up the sedate family SUV. On the outside, the tuner can install a body kit that includes a front spoiler and a rear skirt incorporating a stainless-steel sport exhaust system with quad tailpipes. The complete body kit will set you back 3,103 euros ($3,500), while the front spoiler and rear skirt cost 1,462 euros ($1,600) and 1,755 euros ($2,000) respectively. Heico Sportiv Heico Sportiv Thankfully, the performance parts don't look too garish and seamlessly integrate with the factory car's sleek Swedish styling, creating the "image of a harmonious and homogeneous Volvo from every perspective." Heico Sportiv also offers a set of custom wheels for the Volvo XC90, 21 or 22 inches in size. In addition, the XC90 can be upgraded with Heico Sportiv's sports shock absorbers, spacer plates for the rear axle and wheel spacers. Available for XC90 models with adaptive air suspension, the tuner's lowering springs can lower the SUV's ride height by 0.9 - 1.18 inches depending on the driving mode selected. The sport springs cost 463.01 euros ($500), while the spacers cost 248 euros ($280) in silver and 302 euros ($340) in black. Heico Sportiv Heico Sportiv If you want more performance, Heico Sportiv can extract more power from XC90 Hybrid T8e's electrified 2.0-liter engine using its e.motion chip tuning to tweak the ECU. In stock form, this unit produces 400 horsepower, but the upgrade increases the output to 428 hp. While all new Volvos have a restricted top speed of 112 mph, the tuner can remove the XC90 Recharge's speed limiter and increase the top speed to 130 mph. As for the interior, Heico Sportiv offers an aluminum pedal set (197 euros), an aluminum footrest (273 euros), a sports steering wheel trimmed in leather and Alcantara (1,122 euros), and custom floor mats (154 euros). Let's be clear: one of the best hot hatchbacks is forbidden fruit in the US: yes, we're talking about the Ford Fiesta ST. While it's no longer on sale here, in Europe the Fiesta ST was recently given a mid-cycle facelift bringing fresh styling, new interior tech, and more torque. But this may not be the only update Ford has planned for its venerable hot hatchback. Our spies have caught Ford testing a mysterious prototype at the Nurburgring that appears to be a hotter version of the Fiesta ST. At first glance, it looks like a regular black Fiesta ST, but a closer look reveals some intriguing performance enhancements. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz Since the prototype is based on the pre-facelift model, we're likely looking at a test mule for a new high-performance Fiesta ST. We already know a more powerful hybrid version of the Puma ST is coming, so it's logical to think that an electrified Fiesta ST could also be around the corner. But unlike the Puma ST hybrid prototype that was spied tackling the Nurburgring a few weeks ago, there are no yellow stickers on the Fiesta ST prototype. This is usually a tell-tale sign of an electrified powertrain being tested. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz On the other hand, this clearly isn't a stock Fiesta ST. The prototype is fitted with gold brake calipers and slotted brake discs that are not available for the regular Fiesta ST. The dual exhaust tips also look a bit larger, as does the intercooler visible through the front spoiler. These modifications indicate there is a more powerful engine lurking under the hood. For reference, the current Fiesta ST utilizes a 1.5-liter EcoBoost three-cylinder engine rated at 197 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque. A sticker on the back suggests that BWI Group worked on the brakes and chassis. One theory is that the hotter Fiesta ST could serve as a tribute to the Fiesta WRC car, which is being replaced with the hybrid Puma WRC car in next year's WRC. Back in August, we dropped a big scoop: the Lincoln Zephyr would be coming back to life. We heard very little about the car in the following months, but then as November began, the news came thick and fast. We got a full leak showing exactly what the production version looked like barely a week into the month. More leaks followed, with the interior of the car being uncovered just a week ago. Finally, the new sedan was revealed as a truly gorgeous piece of design last weekend, and while that made us plenty jealous, this new video gives us even more reason to turn green with envy Lincoln Lincoln The Zephyr is the China-market replacement for the MKZ that was killed off last year, but we're not getting any such sedan. Still, we don't mind looking at something as pretty as this Zephyr. The car is currently on display at the 2021 Guangzhou Auto Show in China, and the above video gives us a real-world look at the exterior of the car, allowing us to drink in the detail of that front grille and take closer note of the design of the flush-fitting door handles. The intricacy of the wheels and those LED taillights are also beautifully highlighted here. Lincoln Lincoln We also see the illuminated Lincoln logo along with those connecting daytime running lights. The black trim that leads to the front door handles is a nice touch too, as are the illuminated rear script and subtle integrated spoiler. Inside, a vast expanse of screen space dominates the flat dash, and very few buttons are present. Still, it does retain physical controls for the gear selection buttons. A 2.0-liter turbocharged four-pot motivates the new Zephyr, but although we don't have power figures, we expect that it won't be as strong as the Lincoln Navigator. Local pricing works out to the equivalent of between $40,000 and $55,000, but would you buy it if it came here? We think it would be worth considering. BMW is building a new special edition of the X7 to celebrate the UAE's Golden Jubilee. The United Arab Emirates became independent from the British Empire in 1971. Today it exists as an elective monarchy consisting of seven emirates, including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Ajman. Now, if you know about the UAE, you'll know they love expensive and exotic things. The Sheikhs can afford to lose a Lamborghini door to a bear and simply laugh it off. They also like their things to be exclusive, which is why BMW will only be building 50 of these models, officially known as the BMW X7 UAE 50th Year Edition. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Abu Dhabi Motors Official Page (@abudhabimotors) BMW UAE BMW UAE BMW UAE BMW UAE Only 50 models will be built, and they'll likely be sold out by the time you read this. The changes to the exterior include a prominent gold emblem and a handprinted 50-year logo written in Arabic. The paint is BMW's Frozen Brilliant White Metallic, which contrasts nicely with the black exterior accents, and the Jet Black 22-inch M Sport alloys. According to a dealer's Instagram post, Frozen Brilliant White was chosen because the color features prominently in UAE culture. It also says the UAE is synonymous with pleasing fragrances, so a unique fragrance was formulated for the in-car perfume system. It's called Amberblack Suite Scent, but the post doesn't say what it smells like. Probably money. BMW BMW BMW On the inside, this special edition is trimmed in BMW Individual Merino Ivory White and Night Blue. The standard trim is piano black with more handcrafted insignia. Oddly some options are still available. With this being a special edition specifically for the 6th most prosperous country on the planet, we expected BMW to go all in. BMW also chose not to make any upgrades to the two available engines. The X7 M50i uses BMW's familiar twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 producing 530 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. There's also an entry-level option, which makes no sense whatsoever. It's based on the base xDrive 40i, equipped with a turbocharged inline-six producing 335 hp and 330 lb-ft of torque. This is not the most exclusive X7 to date, however. Earlier this year, BMW built a special edition for Japan, and that production run is limited to just 40 models. BMW also made the Nishijin Edition, limited to just three models. That's more exclusive than a Bentley Bacalar. Few other Japanese manufacturers have managed to deliver as many JDM legends as Nissan. From the 240Z Coupe, through to the S15 Silvia and R34 Skyline GT-R, this brand builds some seriously iconic cars. Tie that into a successful motorsport history, and you've got something truly special. Liberty Walk, one of the best-known names in JDM styling and modification, has taken a humble Silvia S15 and transformed it into something resembling the RD30 Skyline Super Silhouette race car from the 1980s, complete with an ultra-wide body kit and roll cage. The Nissan GT-R Nismo can take a back seat to this thing. View this post on Instagram A post shared by ?LIBERTY WALK NATION? The "LB-Super Silhouette body kit" features Bosozoku-scale fender flares, splitters, and wings that border on the ridiculous, but manages to look functional at the same time. This kit will set you back $25,135 and consists of a massive new front bumper complete with a dominant front lip, a custom Japanese Touring Car hood, huge fender flares, a rear diffuser that looks like it wants to eat small children, and of course that huge 'eff-you' wing. View this post on Instagram A post shared by ?LIBERTY WALK NATION? The car rolls on a set of Liberty Walk five-spoke alloy wheels and an air suspension setup. Those keen on the wheels can expect to pay $7,000. Unfortunately, Liberty Walk hasn't provided any pics of the interior, but from the pictures and videos, one can see a big roll cage and some bucket seats, which means this thing is meant to be driven. Liberty Walk tends to leave its car's engines stock, but not in this case: the LB Silhouette Works S15 is powered by none other than a four-rotor twin-turbo Mazda engine. That is the coolest thing ever. Someone, please bring this kit over to the US. View this post on Instagram A post shared by ?LIBERTY WALK NATION? The electric Cadillac Lyriq is inching closer to production, which starts early next year. The company just crossed the 80% validation threshold, which means "engineers can now focus on fine tuning the Lyriq prior to production." Cadillac posted a video today of some of that late testing, which took place in New Zealand in August, so the company wouldn't have to wait until the northern hemisphere's cold months. "We have spent countless hours behind the wheel of our Lyriq test fleet and in virtual testing environments to be sure we deliver our customers a comprehensive luxury experience expressed in an all-new electrified package," said Jamie Brewer, executive chief engineer. "All the while we are remaining true to our brand promise by placing high priority on meticulous craftsmanship and intuitive integrated technologies." Cadillac Cadillac This is part of the vehicle's accelerated launch, helped by virtual development and parallel processes during Covid times, but now it's at the physical phase where it needs to be tested in use cases like freeways, rural and urban driving scenarios, and of course at low temperatures. It's also feeling out the ride, which benefits from the Lyriq's Ultium batteries in the floor. "Lyriq has exceptional torsional stiffness," said Todd Bruder, lead development engineer. "As a result, we were able to dial in exceptional responsiveness in the steering and suspension systems while simultaneously elevating the brand's signature feeling of comfort to an entirely new plateau." It has a five-link suspension setup, front and rear. That allows for independent tuning of the suspension bushings, which improve ride and handling. The new frequency-dependent dampers can also "see" the difference between large and small impacts, softening and smoothing the ride even further. Cadillac Cadillac Cadillac When the Lyriq does arrive next year, it will come with a 100.4-kWh battery pack sending juice to the rear wheels. GM says it should land with about 340 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque. It will be built alongside other Caddy SUVs at its Spring Hill plant in Tennessee. The Lyriq will be able to charge at up to 190 kW from a DC fast charger, which will be good for 76 miles of range in 10 minutes, says Cadillac. That's what you'll need to find for an EV cross-country road trip. It will go 300 miles on a single charge and at home on a Level 2 charger, should regain about 52 miles per charging hour. That means only about six hours to fill up at home. Cadillac says the Debut Edition Lyriq is already sold out, but that it will offer additional reservations next summer.
